NSCAA ADVANCED NATIONAL DIPLOMA
Patrick Colgan grew up on Long Island, New York with a strong passion for sports and athletics. After years of serious training in various sports, he faced severe injuries including: a broken tibia and fibula and a dislocated patella. After he completed his physical rehabilitation, he realized that he was not mentally prepared to continue to play at the same level. Patrick went on to receive his BS in Physical Education and MS in Physical Education: Coaching Pedagogy from the State University of New York at Cortland. Following graduation, Patrick taught Adapted and General Physical Education at High Point High School in Maryland where he began his coaching career.
During his tenure at High Point High School in Maryland, Patrick led the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team, to earn a Regional ranking three times, which included the school’s first three all-state female players. He also started a Varsity Wrestling Program after the school’s decade hiatus from the sport. He was named Prince George’s County Coach of the Year and earned the Team Sportsmanship Award in 2009. Shortly after his successes at the school he was named Interim Athlete Director, leading all of High Point’s athletic programing. Patrick returned to New York in 2012 and started working with various organizations, clubs and players in NYC, Westchester and Long Island as a soccer trainer.
Recognizing a void in typical training methods, Patrick decided to return for a second Master’s degree in Sport-Exercise Psychology. Upon completion of the degree he decided to launch The Sharpened Athlete to assist athletes in enhancing their physical performance using mental skill techniques. Patrick is currently a member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology and is working towards becoming a certified AASP consultant.
